A sobering reality, but not quite me. Yet.
I asked CHATGPT to come up with a cartoon that would be comparable to the cartoon on my last post. I gave it precise instructions on what to draw and how to draw it. However, all of the attempts, even including the one above on the left that I thought was the best, simply could not mimic the inconsistency and unevenness of the art drawn by my human hand. In fact, ChatGPT’s cartoon looks like it “cleaned up” my version so the lines would indeed be straighter and less, well, wiggly.
My cartoons are painted in watercolor and, again, AI couldn’t quite capture the unevenness of my watercolored image surfaces. Again, it seemed to want to provide surfaces that were more even and, perhaps, more finished. It did contribute shadows to the cartoon image, which were an improvement to my otherwise flat art.
I’ll keep trying to see how close to my style AI will be and, perhaps, one day a cartoon illustrating a blog will be an AI one. Then, I can use the 4 or 5 hours it takes me to illustrate a blog to…hmm…read a book? Go for a walk? Whatever. And I can spend all that time thinking about how I feel being replaced by a computer.
