Beautiful weather combined with Mother’s Day made for many smiles.

Mother’s Day reminds me of Thanksgiving. It’s a holiday that seems to unite people. Even if you’re not a mother, you have a mother. Even if that mother is gone, I’m hoping you have warm and loving memories and use Mother’s Day as a time to remember her.

It’s also a holiday that celebrates families. We had a big family brunch with 12 people, spanning 3 generations. My family, I’m sure like many others, exchanges cards. The cards all have heart-felt, beautiful hand-written messages. My almost 9-year old granddaughter drew pictures from a trip we took this year to the NY Historical Society. My 11 year old grandson wrote a haiku. The cards, and the personal messages they contain, are real keepers.

It was about 3:30 in the afternoon when I walked home, and was struck by the number of people out-and-about. Women of all ages (mothers, mothers-to-be, grandmothers) seemed to have floral bouquets as an accessory. Everyone just seemed to be in a good mood.

So, thanks Mother’s Day for a truly lovely day! I hope your Mother’s Day was as memorable. Do feel free to share with a comment.

I’m Amy

I live in Manhattan and get much of my exercise dodging vehicles and bicycles on the Upper West Side. That aside, I think New York City, with its incredible diversity of people and cultural offerings, is the best place on the planet to age happily.
