I’m continually amazed how more of my fellow New Yorkers don’t get mowed down by vehicles or bikes, or fall into open cellar grates. Their eyes are on their phone screens and their ears are listening to music, podcasts or whatever– not to traffic. Clearly, this isn’t a recipe for safe walking. A good summary article for the general health benefits of disconnecting is this: https://www.uwhealth.org/news/taking-technology-break-can-help-health
What’s as bad is tuning out of the city and not really appreciating its sights and sounds. You may be missing the robins hopping around or the gorgeous flowering trees and magnificent open tulips.
You’ll also miss walking into people.
It’s just a suggestion but there’s a lot to be said for being in the moment.
